Ode To The Omelet

Inspiration can strike in the simplest of places. Take, for example, the Point Park University Cafeteria.

For the past two mornings, I have had the pleasure to indulge in a nice, meaty omelet. Coming from a childhood where the most intricate morning meal that was ever prepared for me was a frosted PopTart, I've been pretty excited.

However exciting these tasty dishes have been, they've really got me thinking about how the whole idea of an omelet came about. Who invented omelets? Were they unhappy with their current breakfast situation and thus determined to take matters into their own hands? (I'd like to think that that was the case) Was it a happy accident or a planned experiment?

So far, I've found out that the omelet was probably French in origin, which really makes sense when you think about it. However, by far the most exciting piece of information I've come across in this fervent search for answers is the existence of a Giant Omelette Celebration in Abbeville, Louisiana. I've attached a video:

Enjoy!

Ernesto Che Guevara: The Motorcycle Diaries

"I now know, by an almost fatalistic conformity with the facts, that my destiny is to travel...perhaps one day, tired of circling the world, I'll return to Argentina and settle in the Andean lakes, if not indefinitely then at least for a pause while I shift from one understanding of the world to another." p. 45
